Major Arcana

XVIII: The Moon

The Moon seems to draw closer as the night progresses, casting a pallid light over the ancient towers of the coast. Strange creatures rise from the ocean and a dog barks at the approaching Angel of Death. The Moon heralds transcendence, imagination, and unconditional love.

There is more to this world than you supposed, and you must pass between the towers to achieve enlightenment. The physical world loses meaning as The Moon’s tears fall on you.

Upright

  • Illusion
  • Imagination
  • Psychic impressions

You will become a tourist of the subconscious, the distance between reality and the world of dreams decreases. If you long for sleep, heed this longing, for enlightenment springs from time spent with your unbounded imaginings.

You may feel as if you are losing control. Perhaps you are. The tears of The Moon form a mighty river; do not fight against its current.

Inverted

  • Uncertainty
  • Insincerity
  • Fantasism

The veil is so thin that the world of illusion permeates it, mingling with the water of reality. Insincerity greases events, making them hard to grasp, and certainties dissolve in The Moon’s cold light.

Adversity lurks all around you. Trust your instinct for insularity, for problems shared are problems doubled when former allies work against you.
