Major Arcana

XIIII: Temperance

In the rubble surrounding a ruined town you come upon Temperance, a voice calm and clear amid the storm of Death and The Devil. Their roots wind through the rocks, seeking energy buried deep beneath the earth. A soft breeze rustles Temperance’s leaves, and they begin to turn.

The water of life circles Temperance’s viens, sap rising as leaves gently fall, life and death, male and female in perfect balance. You ponder an ascent through the branches to the house of far horizons.

Upright

  • Resilience
  • Understanding
  • Calm

As the winds of change blow, the ancient olive tree bends but does not break. And so you remain unruffled by events, a settler of disputes able to appreciate all sides. This is a time of resolution.

Temperance may join your path as a diplomat, an alchemist of understanding. Enjoy your travels with this person, for their calm spirit is a balm for the misadventures that may befall you.

Inverted

  • Quarrel
  • Restiveness
  • Misjudgement

A yellow mist of restless competitiveness envelops you; you scatter your energy to the four winds and sacrifice balance on the alter of meaningless action.

Arguments are likely and your judgement is poor. Decisions you make are likely to be wrong, and regretted later.
